From recordings made three years ago in an extraordinary sound chamber, The Tank, comes this sonic journey unlike any other. Inspired by cosmology and mysticism, Michael's vision has been gleaned from a collection of chants, prayers and intentions, to which many great musicians have contributed. Add to that the musical, sonic and technical skills of Scott 'Gusty' Christensen, and they have created a CD of both depth and beauty. Portal includes fifteen cuts, with an added thirty minute reprise of "the Ocarina Garden" specifically for body workers.

 

 

 
Take an american musician, a free spirit, who travels the world to play music. Thailand, Nepal, Indonesia, Sri Lanka. One doesn't remain unchanged from such travels. Bringing music to the world, yes! But also learning musics of the world. Collecting strange and unusual instruments, and detecting a kind of common thread, a certain buzz, which is present in the roots of all music. Such a traveler is Michael Stanwood. With this understanding of the buzz came a growing ability to hear the roots of it in various instruments; to follow the stories it tells; to make music with it as the very center.
